🛡️ Historical background
Before Independence: During the Travancore monarchy, maintaining law and order was the responsibility of local leaders and generals.

Formation of Kottayam as a district:
In 1949, as part of the merger of the Travancore and Cochin states, Kottayam district was formed.
During this period, police services became more formalized and developed with basic facilities – station houses, an armed reserve force, etc.
